A Buyer’s Checklist for Sourcing Hydraulic Components
Five questions to ask before placing your first order for cylinders or pumps: testing, seals, drawings, warranty and after-sales support.
Hydraulic components are safety-critical parts, and a low unit price is quickly erased by a single field failure. Before placing an order, we suggest buyers verify five points with any supplier.
First, ask how each unit is tested. Cylinders should be pressure tested above working pressure and pumps should be flow tested on a bench, with records kept by serial number.
Second, confirm the seal brand. Genuine Parker, Hallite or NOK seals cost more but dramatically extend service life in dusty or high-temperature environments.
Third, request a dimensioned drawing for approval before production. Port positions, rod-end threads and mounting styles are frequent sources of mismatch.
Fourth and fifth, check the warranty terms and how spare seals and replacement units are supplied. Nexus offers a 12-month warranty and keeps seal kits in stock for every cylinder we have shipped in the last five years.
